This was my first experience attending all the festivities MR. OLYMPIA has to offer. Right after I earned my pro card in 2016, I was given the opportunity to work my sponsor’s booth at the expo. As fun as that job was, it was strictly work related. I never had a chance to see anything outside that convention center and my hotel.
The 60th anniversary of our prestigious sporting event was held in Las Vegas, which is about a 6-7 hour drive (including rest stops) from Los Angeles, and I was fully prepared to make that road trip this year. The fitness expo started on Friday at the convention center. I arrived early to beat the crowds and meet some old and new friends. The pre-judging competition was held here as well on the expo stage. I brought my binoculars to see the women’s physique division (WPD) and female bodybuilding competitors up close from my VIP seat, which by the way, I did not purchase VIP tickets but a very nice security man helped me out of my standing room only position. The day was off to a great start!
I enjoyed catching up with my old coach Chris Cormier who led me to victory at the USA when I turned pro. I also had the pleasure of meeting one of my favorite male bodybuilders, Kai Green, who generously spent time talking to me like we were soul siblings. The expo was two floors and as I journeyed upstairs I found CT Fletcher setting up his booth. No waiting in lines to snap a selfie with this legend.

The raw energy coming from inside the arena pulsed through my entire body. The music caused my hard muscles to vibrate. The lights and excitement from watching the best bodybuilders in the world awakened my senses to a new realization that my sport is real and thriving. I felt so blessed to witness this show live instead of the web stream I have purchased in the past. There was nothing like being there in person and I’m very grateful for this life altering experience.
